Paschim Medinipur District Chamber of Commerce & Industry, popularly known as PMDCCI was established with a view to unite the entire business community of the district for safeguarding the legitimate interest, dignity, honour and respect of the trade and industry fraternity.Rendering services to the common people has been one of the prime objectives ever since its inception. We have established our office at Ganapati Bose Smriti Sadan at Sadarghat, Midnapore Town which act as District Headquarter.Chamber’s membership is spread all over the district. The chamber has traversed a glorious journey of more than a decade of remarkable services rendered not only to the trade and industry community but also to the society in general has indeed made its each and every member proud. Be it a matter related to industrial development, Road network, Telephone services, Electricity, Banking, Railways, Taxation, Pollution Control, Civic Amenities, Labour, Law and Order etc. PMDCCI acts as a bridge between the trade/industry & different departments of State & Central Govt.
Paschim Medinipur holds 51.93 lakh population (2001 census) within the total geographical area of 9295 sq.km. in 29 Blocks under 4 Sub-divisions and 8 Municipalities. The district is mainly a land of agriculture and more than 80% of the total population is residing in the villages and rural economy is mainly based on agriculture and agro-based nature of small industries. The district has various soil type, climate, geomorphology accompanied by varieties of population, caste, creed and vegetation etc. River Kangsabati, Silaboti, Dulong, Subarnarekha, Parang, Keleghai etc. are flowing through this district and enriching cropping system. Major crops grown in the district are paddy, wheat, potato, vegetables, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, jute, betel vine, mat-stick etc. and minor crops maize etc. are also grown. In spite of many constraints, the district produces excess quantity of paddy, vegetables and potato crops and is stepping forwarded year after year, on the other hand the district is lagging behind both in area and production of pulses, oil seed crops. A major agricultural problem is its poor marketing infrastructure. Improved storage structures and market complexes within the reach of the poor producers are essential. There is immense potential for development of the livestock sector. Both demand and supply side factors are encouraging.
